It was a sweet beginning as current Shartlesville Lions Club president PDG Lion Bob Argot installed the 2017-2018 club officers for the upcoming program year which begins July 1.

Lion Pat Fisher was the first one he called forward. She continues as Tail Twister. Noting she had done an excellent job during the previous year, Lion Argot instructed her to continue to add laughter and joy and maybe even some snickers, to the club meetings, presenting her with a Snickers bar, as a reminder of her duties.

Called forward next were upcoming directors, Ashley Seitzinger, John Gardner and Bernadine Lenkiewicz. Their instructions were, “As directors you are called to support the president but to also guide the club toward greater service. You need to keep harmony and orchestrate much as a symphony orchestra does,” and each was given a Symphony bar.

Membership director Ashley Seitzinger was reminded that he was not alone in the responsibility getting new members, but his sweet treat, a container of M&M’s was a reminder to work on “Members and Members.”

Vice presidents Carey Riegel and Pam Pozniak will support the club’s new president. As such they will be part of The Three Musketeers, leading the club in its activities.

Treasurer Carl Berger heard his instructions of keeping a good account of funds received and funds dispersed. He has held the job for a long time, with the annual club audit attesting to his excellence in fulfilling his duties. His reminder of continuing in that position was a PayDay bar.

Co-secretaries Shirley Berger and Patti Cahill were each given a Mounds bar, a reminder of the mounds of work club secretaries have.

As outgoing president, Lion Argot had words of instruction and support to the new club president, Barbara Gardner, “You have a great club to provide support for you but at times the demands will seem to overwhelm you,” before reminding her she should to take time to relax, as she leads the club. He presented her with a Take Five bar and the symbol of her office, a gavel, reminding her that visiting Lions might try to “borrow” the gavel, or any other Lions property to make the Shartlesville club come for a visit to retrieve the misappropriated item.

To all the members, PDG Argot reminded them that the officers “need your full support,” asking if they would give it. A membership affirmative response sealed the installation.

In the business part of the meeting preceding the installation, it was announced that the club would not meet on July 3 in light of it being part of a long holiday weekend.

Club president Argot also reported that he attended the District Cabinet meeting earlier in June and delivered collected eye glasses, soda/beer can tabs, cancelled stamps and baseball caps for outreaching Lions programs.

At that meeting he was presented a certificate for placing third in a state-wide membership contest between Past International Directors, Past District Governors and District Governors.

“I didn’t even know about the contest,” he shared.

He and his Partner in Service, secretary of the Frystown Lions Club, attended the Officer Appreciation Day where a gift was given to each club president, secretary and treasurer. Those gifts were presented to Lions Carl Berger, Shirley Berger and Patti Cahill by PDG Argot.

Also presented to Lion Shirley Berger, and earned by PDG Argot, were Silver Centennial Award pins for bringing in multiple members during the Lions Centennial Celebration.
