Boyertown Junior Woman’s Club recently announced community contributions for their 2016-2017 club year.

BJWC is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, one of the world’s largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational women’s volunteer service organizations. Currently the club has 36 members who not only give their time but also their talent for the betterment of Boyertown and the surrounding area.

The club year, which runs from September through May, is filled with meetings, social events, volunteering hours and several fundraisers. As summer approaches, BJWC allocates the funds they raised throughout the year.

Notable 2017 contributions include a $200 donation to the Boyertown Community Library to support their new children’s section when they move in August to their new location. A $200 donation to Colebrookdale Railroad which was accepted by Denny Emerick. A $200 donation to Designing 4 Hope which was accepted by Lori McHale, Designing 4 Hope founder & executive director. Another donation in the amount of $200 was made to the State Theater Preservation Society. The check was presented to Shannon Anthony by BJWC members Anita Zuber and Jane Prutzman.

Additionally, two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to graduating Boyertown high school seniors Abigail Keebler and Katie Latshaw to support their continuing education. Keebler intends to pursue a B.S. in geology with minors in astronomy and physics. Latshaw will pursue a degree in early childhood education with a dual certification in special education at Millersville University.

Finally, 20 “goodie bags” were donated to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center for their pediatric patients. Judy Batterson of PMMC accepted the bags which were filled with crayons, coloring books, stuffed animals and other “goodies”.

“We are extremely proud of the contributions made this club year,” said Anita Zuber, Boyertown Junior Woman’s Club president. “As BJWC members, we value our community. We want the town we live in to thrive and we work hard to make these donations possible with various fundraisers. We also give many hours of our personal time supporting community events and our own club events, such as Once Upon a Prom. We are always looking for new members to join us. We work hard, but we also have a lot of fun.”
