Emma Ketterer, 15, of Kutztown, a member of the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance, will be the featured artist for the month of July at the Art & Craft Gallery of Hamburg.
“We are very happy that she is part of our group,” said Dina Madara, Art Director, Our Town Foundation. Emma became a member of the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance in January of 2016. “Emma’s skills in photography belie her age. I say that because the feelings she captures in her photos suggest a mature understanding of the emotions behind them. They can give you a feeling of awe in the beauty of the morning sunlight or feel tranquil in the relaxing sunset. She uses the elements of perspective, color, pattern, texture, light and reflection to draw you into the emotion she feels when she takes the picture. Emma’s photos can inspire you, make you laugh, and make you think.”
Last year she was named Budding Artist by Dancing Tree Creations. She began taking photos around her 12th birthday when Lyme disease stripped her of her active life, even preventing her from going to school.
“I am happy that Emma decided to be our Featured Artist in July. Even in an adverse situation with having Lyme disease, Emma has been able to persevere and to focus on something other than her symptoms, which is an important consideration for anyone facing adversity,” said Madara.
Emma and her family invites everyone to a gallery reception on Thursday, July 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“This is a rare opportunity to meet the artist, as she is usually not able to be present at her craft shows,” said Madara.
Light refreshments will be served. The reception will be at the Art & Craft Gallery of Hamburg, 335 State Street in Hamburg. The Hamburg Area Arts Alliance, a subdivision of Our Town Foundation, a non-profit, community revitalization organization, is pleased to sponsor this event.
