Thunder from days gone by will liven up Main Street in Kutztown on July 29 for the 3rd annual Kutztown Kruizz.

Festivities will include a cruise of classic and show-worthy cars from the staging area to line both sides of Main Street at noon, where they will remain until 5 p.m.

“This will be the third year that the Kutztown Community Partnership has hosted this event,” said event chair Kelly Neyhart. “The Kruizz was born as part of the borough’s bicentennial celebration and has been continued annually since then by popular demand. With good weather, this should be the best one yet.”

A stage will be set up in the middle of it all for the locally popular band, Shake Rattle and Soul. Across the street, there will be a crafters court for local artisans. Following a break for dinner, the always-sold-out Fabulous Grease Band will offer their version of old time rock and roll in the bandshell at Kutztown Park at 6 p.m.

Trophies in the form of wall plaques will be given to winners in several different categories. New this year, a mayor’s trophy will be awarded by Sandra Green, mayor of Kutztown, that will represent her choice for best in show. Another new addition, the children’s trophy will be voted on by all the children attending the event, and a community trophy will be selected by the townspeople. As last year, merchants sponsoring the Kruizz will vote for their choice of the top 20 cars in the event.

Many businesses and restaurants will run specials for the day while others add their own unique contributions to the festivities. A kruizz guide will be provided to all visitors outlining the events and where to find them.

A percentage of the day’s proceeds will be donated to Kutztown Strong, an organization founded in the wake of a series of tragic deaths among young people in the eastern Berks area from drug overdose. Kutztown Strong’s mission is to combat substance abuse for the wellbeing of the Kutztown community.

The first 200 to register a car for the event will receive dash plaques and goodie bags filled with small items from local merchants.
