Darlene Moser, owner of the Oley Turnpike Dairy, says several exotic birds were taken overnight Sunday from the dairy’s petting zoo.
The missing birds include a breeding pair of yellow-headed amazons, a yellow sun conure, and an African grey parrot. Some of these birds have been there for more than 20 years.
She said the intruder, or intruders, cut the wire to get into the animal house and believes it occurred after 9 p.m. Sunday.
“The birds must have put up a fight,” said Moser, describing debris in the area of the incident. “Everything else is still there. We still have a couple parrots. I hope they can get somebody; hopefully nobody comes back.”
The owner added that they’re never had an incident like this before at the dairy, though they did have a few goats stolen a few years ago. Anyone with useful information is asked to call 610-914-9214, any time and leave a message, or 610-689-0660, from hours 10-7 p.m.
As report was made to Oley Police Department; the department was unavailable for comment Monday afternoon.
