Air Force Staff Sgt. Kyle Woods returned home from deployment and decided to surprise his two young children at The Goddard School in Gilbertsville on Thursday.

Kyle and his wife, Molly, in addition to other family members, gathered at the school to surprise their young sons during class.

Six-year-old Landon and 2-year-old Caleb had no idea they’d be seeing their dad on Thursday. The last time the family was together was right after Christmas.

“I’m happy to be home,” said Kyle. “I think I left Norfolk on Jan. 2 and haven’t seen them since, other than Facetime and stuff like that. It’s exciting, been waiting a while.”

“We think we’re going to get a good reaction from the older son,” said Molly, explaining how she’s not sure how the younger one will respond.

Kyle is returning home from a from a six-month deployment. As a reservist, he’s home for good until the next deployment. He has been serving the Army for five years, with one more year remaining on his first contract.

The entire school turned out to welcome Kyle home with posters and applause; the celebration concluded with water ice for everyone.
