The Hamburg Strand Theater hosted Art and a Movie events this summer for children, “The Wizard of Oz” on July 17 and Pixar’s “Wall-E” on Aug. 14.

“Our Art and a Movie event was so fun,” said Bethany Sholl, theater manager.

The Art and Movie events were inspired by Sholl’s daughter Harper who is 6 and loves art so they thought of Art and a Movie. Local artist, Hil Eldridge, had done an art class for teenagers at the theater recently so Sholl said they asked her if she’d be interested.

“She was super excited to be involved and has chosen both the movies and art projects to go along with it. She’s a really fun and enthusiastic teacher with great ideas!” said Sholl.

On Aug. 14, attendees watched the movie “Wall-E” and ate pizza. Then, Eldridge discussed the kids’ favorite parts of the movie and which of the robots were their favorite.

“The kids then decided what robots they wanted to create. We had a knitting robot, a manicurist robot, a tiger robot and a snack robot,” said Sholl. “They then used a variety of materials to create the robots. They used yarn, paper, crayon, marker, bubble wrap and tin foil among other things.”

The Strand hopes to provide something for everyone in the community.

“In recent months we have had events and movies for children, teens, adults, history buffs (Centralia), our Faith Night series, along with our regular weekly movie offerings,” she said.

The Strand is a part of the Our Town Foundation.
