Boyertown Area School District has gone mobile.

In an effort to boost communication, a mobile app for the district has been designed for Android and Apple devices. This app is now available through the App Store or Google Play, search “Boyertown Area SD” to find it.

The app will feature the district’s news and announcements, as well as information on its individual schools. It will also feature data such as calendars, account balances, transportation alerts, bus route assignments, daily attendance, course schedules, assignments, library obligations, and lunch balances. Parents and students can access specific student data by using their district login credentials.

Director of Information Technology Scott Major took the lead on the project.

“The purpose of the app is a couple things,” said Major. “It’s mostly a communication mode for us. Everyone today is carrying cell phones. That’s where everything’s at. The purpose of the app is to have a one stop shop for people, not just parents and students, but people in the community who have an interest in the district.”

Major added how it’s a great way for alumni to keep up with what’s going on, as well as athletes.

“It was a busy summer this year. The timing is good. Kids and parents are always eager to see what their schedules are. The fact that we were able to get it out just in time for that was good.”

Course schedules for the 2017-2018 school year were made available on Monday, Aug. 14. The app itself was launched about three weeks ago.

“We’re getting good feedback. A lot of folks have ideas of what else we could add or integrate into the app to make it even better. We’re always looking for creative ideas in how we can improve.”
