Troopers from the State Police Troop L Fire Marshall’s Unit are investigating a fatal fire that claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and her two young children.
Union Fire Company of Hamburg responded to a residence heavily engulfed in flames in the 400 block of South 4th Street in Hamburg at 11:24 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2.
Berks County Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner John Hollenbach said that 27-year-old Jennifer Wilder, 5-year-old Gabriel Kalinofski and 2-year-old Julian Gust were all pronounced dead at the scene around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
Another resident, Tyler Gust, was able to escape from a bedroom window in the residence. He was hospitalized for his injuries.
In addition to Union Fire Company of Hamburg, responding to the 3-alarm fire were Shoemakersville Fire Company, Port Clinton Fire Department, Central Berks Fire Company, Union Fire Company #1 of Leesport, Shartlesville Community Fire Co. #1 Station 41, Strausstown Volunteer Fire Co., Bernville Community Fire Company, Kempton Fire Company, Virginville Fire Company, Kutztown Fire Company, Temple Fire Company, Blandon Fire Department, Mt. Penn Fire Company, Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department, Schuylkill Haven Fire Department - Fire District 63, Macungie Ambulance Corps, Hamburg Emergency Medical Services, Inc., Northern Berks Emergency Medical Services, and Muhlenberg Area Ambulance Association.
The investigation is continuing.
