Sept. 12Billy Burger hurricane benefit: Sept. 12 and 13, Billy Burger and bakery will be having a fund raising event to help contribute to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Anyone can come in for lunch or dinner either day and choose anything from the bakery, the regular base menu, or from the Texas BBQ style specials. 10 percent of all proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. Billy Burger and bakery is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day and customers can call ahead to use pre-order pick-up window.

Sept. 14Honey Brook Senior Citizens will meet: Sept. 14, at 11:45 a.m. in the Honey Brook Presbyterian Church. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share. The Tel Hai Ukulele Band will present a program and a sing-a-long. All area seniors are invited to attend and bring a friend.

Sept. 14Low Vision Support Group: at Garden Spot Village at 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Special Guest Speaker Dr. Jonathon Andrews, OD, Optometric Associates, will present “Glaucoma and Cateracts.” Dr. Andrews will host a question and answer time after his presentation. The group is designed to provide information and support to enhance independence for persons with any kind of visual losses. The program is free and open to the public. Sept. 16 Crusin for Christ: St. Peter United Church of Christ, Route 23, Knauertown will hold Crusin for Christ, our annual car show, on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain date Sept. 30). Featuring the legendary Doo Whop singer and DJ Doc C, the public is invited to stop by and view classic cars, vote for popular categories and enjoy food. Pre-registration available. Sept. 16STARFEST 2017: Saturday, Sept. 16, Rain/Cloud date Sept. 17 at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, 2 Mark Bird Lane, Elverson, (off Route 345 at Hopewell Road) 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. Join the Chesmont Astronomical Society for speakers, astronomy presentations and activities for kids. Special Guest Peter Detterline, an avid astronomer, will be sharing his experience of The Great American Eclipse of 2017. Keynote Speaker Stephen Leete, a Mission Systems Engineer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, will speak about Gravitational Waves, the ripples in the fabric of space-time caused by some of the most violent and energetic processes in the universe. Public viewing of Milky Way available through more than 20 amateur and high-end telescopes. The highlight of the evening is 10 Object Row. 10 of our members’ telescopes will be focused on a different deep sky object so the public gets a variety of astronomical objects to look at. Sept. 23Blood Drive: The St. Elizabeth Knights of Columbus is holding their annual Red Cross Blood Drive on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Individuals who are at least 17 years of age and are in generally good health may be eligible to give blood. Sept. 23Community Day: West Nantmeal Township invites all ages to its first Commumity Day on Sept. 23, at West Nantmeal Park. Activities 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. include Moon Bounce, obstacle course, food and craft vendors, emergency vehicles. Activities throughout the day: barrel ride, giant bubbles; kid crafts; 3 legged races; pie eating contests, helicopter landing; bike,scooter,stroller decorating and parade, contest for ages 8-10, all art supplies included. 1st event is 5/10K Run. Sept. 23Dedication: At 11 a.m., West Nantmeal Township and Historical Commission will be hosting the dedication at the Township Park, of a plaque and monument commemorating the crew of a B-24 bomber plane which crashed, while on a training mission, in the township on Dec. 4, 1943. Family members of the lone surviving member will be in attendance; crash artifacts, collected in a local farmer’s field, will be on display. Bob, Ford, collector and local historian, will display WWII uniforms and memorabilia, and share personal stories of local veterans, including an ace pilot, bombardier, and POW, 2 of whom he interviewed. Sept. 23Basic Safety Course: 1 p.m. at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, corner of Rts. 322 & 897 at 4833 Division Highway in East Earl. Valley Township Police Chief Joe Friel, a member of Cedar Grove, will give a general presentation of what is going on with the opiate problem and what we can do to prevent addiction.
