Fire crews responded to a 2nd-alarm home fire at 345 Dietrich Valley Road, Greenwich Twp,. at 1:38 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Hamburg Fire Company Deputy Chief Jarrod Emes said the Fire Marshal listed the fire as electrical and accidental in nature. No one was home at the time of the fire.
“A man and woman passing by in there car saw heavy flames from a second-story window,” said Emes.
Emes said a 2nd-alarm was called due to the rural location.
“Fire crews from Northern Berks had to work to isolate the fire that was hidden in areas of the old farm house.”
Responding were Community Fire Company of Virginville, Kutztown Fire Company Truck Crew, Hamburg Fire Company, Shoemakersville Fire Company, Kempton Fire Company, Walnuttown Fire Company, Blandon Fire Department, Union Fire Company #1 of Leesport, Fleetwood Fire Company, Port Clinton Fire Company, Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department, Lyons Volunteer Fire Company, Kutztown Ambulance, Northeastern Berks Emergency Medical Service Inc., and Macungie Ambulance Corps.
Crews put out the fire in 25 minutes. Emes said there was extensive damage to the second story and water damage throughout the home. There was heavy fire load on the second floor.
