The 2017 Oley Fair Celebrity Dairy Showmanship Contest is set to be held on Friday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. The community is invited to come out to support and cheer on local “celebrities” as they present dairy cows to a panel of judges.
“I came up with the idea couple years ago just as a simple, fun event to get some of the high-profile community people involved and business people,” said fair president Kevin Bieber. “It’s just a fun event – everybody has fun.”
There are generally about a dozen participants in the event each year, each making their best attempt to show a show.
This year’s local celebrities include Wayne Weidner – Oley Valley Community Representative, Noel Christman – Oley Valley Community Library, Mike Stauffer Oley Valley High School Principal, Marie Haas – Oley Fire Company Ambulance Chief, Charlie Bauer – Lehigh Law – Head of Security for the Oley Fair, Jeremy Deysher – Oley Valley Agricultural Science Teacher, Deborah Hannum – Oley Township Municipal Authority Member, David Roland – BB & T Bank Market President, Jill Howard – Mallie Falconaro & Company, and the yet-to-be-announced 2017 Overall Heaviest Pumpkin Representative.
Bieber said there is usually a good crowd for it, and it’s pretty neat to see in action.
