The Village Library of Morgantown had another successful summer with the “Build a Better World” 2017 Summer Reading Program. Almost 300 children and teens registered and more than 170 children and teens completed all three levels of reading.

Besides the weekly Summer Reading Event on Wednesdays, there was a seven-week Lap Sit program provided by the County. Also Sunny Crest and Little Mates each came for weekly programs. Throughout the Summer Reading Program the community came to see Magician Brian Richards, Lancaster Parks and Recreation, Berks Parks and Recreation, Weaver’s Orchard, Yocum Institute, and Science Tellers, who all came and did an amazing job teaching and entertaining the children and parents. Extra craft projects were offered over the summer as well. At one craft, 15 participants made drawstring backpacks from T-shirts. At another craft, 18 participants painted butterfly houses.

Pam Mohl, the Children’s Librarian, did a fantastic job bringing the community together. Many teens from the community helped each week with set-up, handling reading logs, and aiding with crafts when needed.

Another key to the program’s success was the donations made by local business’ who gave monetary donations to purchase prizes as well as tickets, vouchers, gift cards and store items to make the program so much more exciting.

The Library would like to offer its deepest thanks to the following businesses: Petersheim Bros. Inc, Carl Wingard Inc., Glass Upholstery, Sheetz of Morgantown, Goods Store of East Earl, Mandy Hinkel with Tastefully Simple, Jennifer Waldron with Thirty-One and Usborne, French Creek Pool and Boat Rentals, Fightin Phils, Reading Public Museum, Winterthur, Longwood Gardens, Shady Maple Farm Market, Moe’s Southwest Grill of Exeter, BB’s Grocery Outlet, Pizza Hut of Morgantown, Auntie Anne’s of Elverson, Sight and Sound, Hands on House, Sonic of Elverson, Landis Valley Museum, Weaver’s Orchard, Yocum Institute for the Arts, Golden Eagle Comics, Miller Center, and to various library patrons.
