A fatal fire that claimed the lives of a pregnant Hamburg mother and her two children has been ruled accidental by the State Police Troop L Fire Marshall’s Unit.
State Police report that the fire started as a result of discarded smoking material. The fire originated on a first-floor rear porch.
State Police report that the investigation showed no evidence of any criminal intent.
The three-alarm fire occurred in the 400 block of South 4th Street in Hamburg at 11:24 p.m. on Sept. 2.
Jennifer Wilder, 27, Gabriel Kalinofski, 5, and Julian Gust, 2, were all pronounced dead at the scene around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 3 by Berks County Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner John Hollenbach.
Another resident of the home, Tyler Gust, was able to escape from a bedroom window in the residence. He was hospitalized for his injuries.
