It all started with a tug on the heart of Conestoga Christian School fifth grade teacher, Jill Greenly, to help a friend who lives in the Houston area after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. She decided that she was going to have her class collect supplies and then send them to a school affected by the hurricane. Her husband, Jack Greenly, Director of Student Life at Conestoga, felt that the Lord was leading them to involve the whole school, so he and his wife decided to roll out a major service project.
They asked the high school students to bring in gift cards to major chains in the Houston area such as Lowes, Target, Subway and Walmart. The middle school students were given the job of donating new lunch boxes and back packs, and the elementary students brought in school supplies: paper, pens, glue sticks etc. Everyone also brought in socks!
When the school sent out their request to the parents of CCS, someone contacted the local Walmart and they partnered with the school by donating all of their back-to-school supplies left over from this year. The project was off and running and the school collected over two pallets of supplies in just over two weeks.
CCS also collected close to $1,200 in gift cards, which will be distributed by their contact at Community Christian School, which is a small Christian school of 212 students, K-12, in Orange, Texas. Their school had over $2 million in damages and will be in the rebuilding process for the next several months. They are currently meeting in a furniture warehouse across town. They are thanking the Christian school community for all the generosity and support that is being shown. Students at CCS have learned what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus in today’s world.
