St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Honey Brook showcases its newly-restored Haskell Pipe Organ with a free recital open to the public at 4 p.m., Sunday Oct. 22.
The program features music from J. S. Bach to Romantic and 20th Century French and more, played by St. Mark’s organist, Mary Campbell, and Andrew Heller, organist at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ardmore. Choir members, Philadelphia soprano soloist Suzanne Erb, and St. Mark’s own woodwind quartet join the organists for this program.
Built in 1910, the organ was brought from Philadelphia by train and horse-drawn carriage. The $40,000 restoration was completed late last year after 10,000 hours of work, including repainting the organ’s 422 pipes, said Peter Gerger, president of Jacob Gerger and Sons Inc. of Warrington, which refurbished the instrument. “St. Mark’s should be applauded for preserving this organ as there were other options,” Gerger said.
