The Hamburg Area High School Class of 1967 celebrated its 50th Reunion on Saturday, Oct. 7, after 2½ years of planning.

The committee decided to go back in time by having a 60s-themed reunion at Haag’s Hotel where various sport banquets were held during their high school years.

While doing research to locate classmates, the committee decided to include those who were in their class at any point throughout their years at Hamburg Area High School. Some of these classmates did not graduate from Hamburg for one reason or another, such as moving out of the area. Out of 150 classmates remaining, 62 attended the event and another seven didn’t attend at the last minute due to personal conflicts.

Some of those attending came from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, and Florida as well as many states in between. Another 41 classmates expressed an interest in receiving information on class activities; however, did not attend the reunion. The committee and members of the class were very happy with the response and turn out.

The classmates not only enjoyed a dinner but an entire weekend of activities was planned. On Oct. 6, many classmates met at The Westy for a social gathering. On the morning of Oct. 7, a school tour was scheduled, and that afternoon a local wine tour was planned. Unfortunately, the school tour was cancelled a few days before due to a conflict with the school.

In addition to the activities, the committee set up a photographer to take a class picture and had various photo opportunity stations set up in the banquet hall.

They also made a 50th Reunion booklet. This booklet reflects the jointure of the six individual high schools into Hamburg Area High School, pictures of their eighth grade class, which was their first year at the new high school, and Hamburg Item newspaper and High Lights, the school paper, articles relating to classmates and the school.

In addition, the booklet included advertisements from those years as well as information on each of the classmates.

The committee would like to thank the Hamburg Historical Society for their assistance in gathering much of this information.

The committee asked for suggestions for their next gathering, which turns out to be a 70th birthday for classmates in two years.

Many of the classmates also gather the second Thursday of each month at Blue Mountain Family Restaurant at 9 a.m. for breakfast. All members of the class of 1967 are invited to attend.
