EXETER >> As a community mourns the loss of 23-year-old woman, members have come together to help pay for her funeral expenses.
The body of Madison Marie Walb was found Sunday, Oct. 8, in a wooded area just off Riegel Road in Lower Heidelberg Township. Authorities believe she was killed elsewhere and her remains were dumped in Lower Heidelberg.
After an autopsy was performed by Reading Hospital pathologist Dr. Supriya Kuruvilla on Monday, Oct. 9, police ruled the manner of death a homicide. They have not yet disclosed a cause of death.
According to her obituary, Walb was a 2012 Exeter High School graduate and took courses at Vo-Tech East for dental assisting. Known to family and friends as “Maddy,” she worked at Pitney Bowes as a mail sorter. Prior to that, she was employed with ICR in customer service.
“Maddy enjoyed playing basketball and loved listening to music. She enjoyed doing hair and makeup on herself and her family and friends,” read her obituary. “She was known as a loving and caring person. Her nieces and nephews meant the world to her.”
Now, as the community works to heal, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with Walb’s funeral expenses.
“When will communities control the evil? So sorry to lose such a young, happy girl. My sincere condolences,” read one of the comments on the fundraising page.
The page has a set goal of $10,000 and was created on Oct. 12. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/maddie039s-family.
