Americans 4 Heroes of Morgantown is sponsoring the screening of the post-traumatic stress disorder awareness film “Thank You for Your Service” on Nov. 8.

“This is a riveting film depicting Iraqi veterans on the battlefield then back home onto American soil. It is raw emotion. We welcome them home and congratulate them for being a hero, but the hero does not feel like a hero. They are thinking, ‘Did you know I killed people?’ It will help explain the disconnect between how a veteran perceives himself compared to America’s perception of a hero,” said Brenda Sorber, Americans 4 Heroes Public Relations Officer.

“Thank You for Your Service” will be shown Nov. 8 at Fairgrounds Reading 10, Fairgrounds Square Mall.

“We hope to raise community awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This fundamental problem leads to 22 suicides a day in our nation,” said Sorber. “It permeates every aspect of their lives and bleeds into the family and lives of first responders. This film will give insight into the mental illness caused by PTSD and educate those who have not been touched with a glimmer into the minds and lives of those that live it every day.”

PTSD symptoms include not wanting to leave the house, not feeling safe, being on edge with loud noises, not believing in God, profiling people of other cultures, must be able to see the door and never put back to a door, and they constantly need to organize themselves to their environment. They have been trained to be vigilant and their experiences permeate every aspect of their lives.

Sorber invites veterans and family members, medical and social service providers, community organizations and anyone who is interested in learning about those suffering PSTD.

Americans 4 Heroes of Morgantown’s mission is to honor and support veterans and first responders.

“We differ from other veterans associations since we are inclusive and welcome men, women and youth to our organization. We also include cars in our runs, along with the motorcycles.”

Recent events included the Aug. 26 Geigertown Fire House 1st Annual Run; Oct. 15 Valor Clinic Motorcycle Ride and Party for veterans; and Oct. 14 and 15 members of A4H greeted buses and sponsored a vendor table at Hay Creek Apple Festival.

Ticket prices are $10. Reserve tickets at http://gathr.us/s/20120 or call Americans 4 Heroes at 484-706-2605. Deadline to purchase tickets is Oct. 27.
