Kutztown Magic Convention brings biggest names in magic to Kutztown

The Mingus Magic Club brings some of the biggest stars in magic to Kutztown on Nov. 11.

The convention is geared toward magicians, and those interested in magical performance and collecting. During the day magicians will be treated to dealers selling magic props, an auction of used magic equipment, several lectures on the performance of magic, close up magic shows and more.

The culmination of the day is the all star magic show, which is open to the public. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets $20 for adults, $10 for children 12 to 5 with children under 5 free with a paying adult. Proceeds from the evening show and refreshment sales will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The convention is being held at Kutztown Middle School, 10 Deisher Road Kutztown. This year’s performers include:

Mark Kalin and Jinger are a multi-award winning magical duo,featured on The World’s Greatest Magic and NBC’s Hidden Secrets of Magic, performed around the world, and the winners of magic’s highest honor Magicians of the Year, by the Academy of Magical Arts-Hollywood’s Magic Castle.

Charlie Frye and Company is a variety act by Charlie and his wife Sherry who have a blend of silent comedy, magic, juggling, and sophisticated slapstick.

Michael Finney is a comedian, magician, philanthropist, corporate spokesman, and motivational speaker.

David Regal is a television writer and a creator of effects for magicians. His background is live comedy, as a member of the main company of Chicago City Limits. Since moving to the Los Angeles area he has served as head writer for Nickelodeon’s Rugrats, and has written for many sitcoms, including multiple episodes for Everybody Loves Raymond. In addition, magic effects of his design are performed around the world.

Chris Capehart, an accomplished master magician, is a regular headliner at “Monday Night Magic” in New York City and has performed at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California and traveled to England to perform at The Blackpool Magic Convention.

Doc Swan performs a combination of juggling, fire eating, escape and magic.

The Mingus Magic Club is based out of the Mingus Magic Shop, 528 Lancaster Ave., Reading. The club is affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Magicians (Local Ring #57) and the Society of American Magicians (Assembly 92).
