On Friday, Oct. 20, Hamburg Area High School took the entire sophomore class on a hike to the Pinnacle, which is a local high point on the Blue Mountain ridge.
The trail’s location on the Appalachian Mountains causes for an extraordinarily breathtaking view.
The students hiked 8.4 miles to the Pinnacle on one of the multiple routes. They experienced various trails that were rocky, steep, and displayed the beauties of nature. Sophomores were able to be exposed to the wild plants and animals, along with streams and the displays of nature the mountain had to offer.
The purpose of the hike was not only to divulge the students to the Pinnacle, but the trip was tied in with assignments within their English classes. The students experienced the conditions that the characters within the novel that they will begin to read, “Into the Wild” by Joe Krakauer also came across. They were expected to record observations and take photos of their surroundings to assist their future writing assignments in their classes dealing with the novel.
The annual hike to the Pinnacle was favored and enjoyed by the attending students and faculty, including sophomore Madison Boyer who described the hike as “challenging at first, but extremely worthwhile.”
Many students appreciated the hike and want to visit the Pinnacle again.
