Fleetwood Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1956 met with Chef Lynch and Chef Kuhwald for a tour of the culinary department at Berks Career & Technology Center.

The Girl Scouts were able to see how they set up the restaurant before a meeting and proper plating techniques. Chef Lynch then showed the girls how the emergency exit button worked for the freezer in the event that anyone would ever get locked in. That was a cold demonstration!

They were then shown the bakery area and the various machines that are used to mix ingredients. The Scouts were told that the restaurant bakes over 30,000 cookies throughout the school year.

The girls had a chance to talk with Chef Kuhwald about her favorite knives and utensils and why it’s important to eat a healthy balanced meal.

The tour was wrapped up with a discussion about cross contamination and how easily germs can be spread, even while drying off clean dishes. After some further discussions, Chef Kuhwald told the girls that she was not only a scout when she was younger but she was also a Girl Scout leader.
