This month the Wagner-Good VFW Post started a refurbishment project of the Veteran’s Memorial located at 2nd and State streets in Hamburg.

The memorial was suffering from the ravages of time and weather and the shrubbery was overgrown and no longer able to be trimmed to a manageable size. The Borough of Hamburg Municipal employees very graciously mow the grass and trim the shrubbery and during a conversation it was brought to the attention of the VFW that the shrubbery could no longer be trimmed and needed to be replaced.

George Holmes, the new mayor and VFW member, went to work finding resources to complete the work and the borough foreman stated he would be happy to remove all the shrubbery and haul it away.

Kirk Ernst Landscaping of Hamburg offered to replace the shrubbery with new low maintenance nursery stock. The VFW auxiliary will continue planting with colorful flowers in the spring.

Straub Roofing and Concrete is currently re-pointing the stone work that was deteriorated due to the elements. The post will water proof the entire monument when weather permits.

The Wagner-Good Post offers our many thanks to all those who participated and donated their time and materials to this project.
