POTTSTOWN >> The Pottstown Fire Department was busy over the weekend making sure community members were prepared for emergencies.
On Saturday Nov. 11, 20 members of the Pottstown Fire Department, including Fire Chief Michael Lessar, knocked on 200 residences offering free smoke alarms with installation or replacement of the batteries in the smoke alarms.
As of Saturday, 50 homes received new smoke alarms with a 10-year battery life.
The smoke alarms were provided by Liz VonBaldas, home fire campaign coordinator from the American Red Cross.
“This is something that we provide not only to Pottstown but other communities in Montgomery and Chester Counties,” said VonBaldas.
Lessar added that smoke alarms are available for any resident upon request.
“We are pleased to work in conjunction with the Red Cross to provide these smoke alarms to our community,” said Lessar. “We have additional smoke alarms for installation for those residents that were not home or would like to have one installed, and if they contact the fire chief at 610-970-6525 we will schedule a time to install them.”
