Four Berks Career and Technology Center students were chosen by a jury of professional graphic designers to display their work at Cabrini College’s Art + Effect poster exhibition in November. The students whose work was chosen for exhibition are Aleks Hudock, 19, from the Daniel Boone School District, for “Choose Equality” poster; Alyssa McLean, a senior at Kutztown High School, for “Equality” poster; Bristol Long, an 11th grader at Schuylkill Valley High School, for “Gender Equality” poster; and Cecelia Sekelic, an 11th grader at Daniel Boone High School, for “United We Stand” poster.

Eight students in the class were tasked with creating an 18″ x 24″ poster with the theme of “equality.” Students used a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create a striking message communicating a personal meaning of equality. Cabrini received 59 entries and jurors chose 20 posters for the exhibition, which runs from Nov. 19 to 27 in the Grace Hall Atrium at Cabrini College in Radnor.

“Equality is a huge topic for today’s students and I knew the theme would result in some powerful artwork. I am thrilled for, and proud of all the students who participated in this contest,” said instructor Beth Ireland.

Entries were judged on originality, craftsmanship and thematic message. Successful poster designs integrated both type and image to impose a unique message. Posters were judged by a team of professionals in the graphic design industry including Nicole Bernat of Nicole Bernat Designs, Ennis Carter of Social Impact Studios, Krista Grabowski of Seventh Point, Mary Gunheim of Connors Advertising & Design, Shawn Hileman of Masthead Print Studio, Chris Loringer of Comcast, Nicole Miller of PDC Bands, Jon Rea of H4B Catapult, and Tom Whalen of StrongStuff.
