The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 5 announced that work on a project to improve two roads in Fleetwood borough is about to enter its final phase.

“We are excited to announce all roads involved in this project are currently open and will remain open for the holidays,” Assistant District Executive for Construction Alfred A. Picca Jr., P.E. said in a release. “However, a section of Main Street will close early next year and stay closed until the project is complete.”

The project began in February 2016 and involves reconstructing Route 662 from just north of Poplar Road to just south of Schiery Road, and reconstructing Park Road/Main Street/Fleetwood Lyons Road from the Fleetwood Community Park to just west of Dryville Road.

The project includes upgrading utilities and upgrading traffic signals at the intersections of Main and Richmond streets and Main and Franklin streets. Also included are new curb ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, new curbing and sidewalks, new signs, new pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction.

Beginning Jan. 3, 2018, Main Street/Fleetwood Lyons Road between Franklin Street and just west of Dryville Road will be closed and detoured until November. The posted detour will route traffic on PA 662, Pricetown Road, Forgedale Road, and Lyons Road.

Motorists should also anticipate intermittent lane restrictions on PA 662 and Park Road/Main Street until the end of the project, and are advised to expect delays and use caution driving through the area. All work on the project is expected to be complete in November 2018.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, is the general contractor on the $12,607,695 project.

The average daily traffic volume on PA 662 in this area is 5,635 vehicles, and on Main Street is 14,336 vehicles.
