AMITY >> A man and woman are facing charges after police say they caught them at the scene of a burglary.

Darrien Johnson, 20, of Royersford and Amara Sanders, 19, of Spring City, have been charged after police say they were found at the scene in possession of a stolen gun and drug paraphernalia.

Amity Police said Friday that they had received a call at approximately 5:04 a.m. on Nov. 23 for a possible burglary in progress at a single family home on the 400 block of Old Swede Road (Route 662). Upon arrival, officers located a female walking around in the front yard. While speaking with her, officers noticed the basement window was open and a male was standing inside of the basement, police said.

Both were arrested without incident.

Upon searching the male, later identified as Johnson, police said he was in possession of a loaded handgun that was later determined to be stolen. The female, identified as Sanders, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Johnson and Sanders were both interviewed at the Amity Police station before being transported to the Reading Courthouse.

They were arraigned and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, possession of a stolen firearm and prowling, police said.
