St. Francis Academy in Bally held their annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 8. In honor of their 275th anniversary, they invited their oldest alumni to partake.
Rita Hartman, 94, and Gertie Snyder, 92, were given the honor of turning on the lights on the towering evergreen tree. A spotlight illuminated a large number 275, signifying the anniversary.
Representatives from each grade, pre-k through 8, placed handcrafted 275th anniversary ornaments on the tree; five additional representatives from each grade will place red and silver Christmas balls on the tree.
The school’s choir lead the students in a rendition of ‘Joy to the World’. The event will be held at the tree in the school’s yard bordered by Seventh and Pine Streets.
Hartman and Snyder were driven to the lighting ceremony from church in a golf cart, driven by school alumni Joe Melcher, 88, with a police escort.
