An SUV crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a tractor trailer truck head on and then flipping over on Route 222 in Richmond Township at 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 11.

According to Fleetwood Police, the investigation revealed that the SUV, driven by Mitchell Futej, 23 of Eagleville, was driving northbound on Route 222 when his SUV crossed over into the oncoming southbound lane for an unknown reason, striking a southbound tractor trailer truck head on.

The SUV flipped onto its roof after impact. The driver was transported to Reading Hospital Medical Center to be evaluated for minor injuries.

The driver of the truck, Wilbur Martin, of Ephrata, was not injured.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Fleetwood Police report that extensive clean up was required due to diesel fuel that leaked from the tractor truck onto the roadway.

The roadway remained open with intermittent lane restrictions for about two and half hours.

Fleetwood Police were assisted on scene by Walnuttown Fire, Virginville Fire, Kutztown Fire, Fleetwood Fire, Fleetwood Ambulance, and Fire Police.
