Beverly Johnson, a 77-year-old resident at Hickory House Nursing Home in Honey Brook, is proud that her artwork is being sent around the country on the front of hundreds of Christmas cards.

Each year, parent company Life Care Centers of America invites residents in more than 200 nursing and rehab facilities to submit Christmas card designs, and one piece is chosen for each of the organization’s geographical divisions. A total of eight designs are printed and distributed to facilities and regional offices throughout Life Care.

Johnson’s depiction of three caroling snowmen is this year’s winner for Life Care’s centers in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio and Rhode Island.

“It was very exciting to place!” said Johnson, who learned of her winning on Dec. 1. “The Christmas card contest is such a nice program. Hopefully my card will encourage other residents to participate next year.”

Johnson looks forward to the Christmas card contest all year long. She enjoys coloring and drawing and also has a passion for music, playing the piano during religious services at the facility.
