Santa and the Kutztown Optimist Club visited with children at Kutztown Community Library on Dec. 9 while snow painted the town a winter wonderland.

Chris Battin of Kutztown brought her granddaughter Luna Rae Battin, 18 months, out to see Santa.

“It’s local and the library is awesome,” said Battin, while little Luna Rae sucked on a candy cane given to her by the Optimists.

Optimist Club President Don Hickman said the Santa event is just another opportunity for the Optimist Club to be a friend to youth.

“Gives young families an opportunity to get pictures taken with Santa,” said Hickman. “Make the holidays a little happier.”

Optimists handed out candy canes, books and coloring books to visiting children.

“We’ve done this for years. It’s just one of those things we enjoy doing, seeing the kids’ smiles,” said Hickman.

The Club members were pleased to see about 25 families visit the free event that morning.

“They can come here, get their pictures with Santa and then they get to enjoy the library,” said Hickman. “It’s a win-win for all of us.”

Optimists participating in the event were Charlie Beck, as Santa, Paul Bower and Al Evan.

“Merry Christmas!” said Hickman.
