The annual Fleetwood Recreation Board tree lighting in Fleetwood Park on Dec. 10 proved to be a spectacular night of Holiday festivities for event goers.
The freshly fallen snow from the previous day added a perfect back drop for the Hometown Holiday Celebration. Fleetwood’s beautiful Christmas tree was lit while the Fleetwood High School band played uplifting holiday music. The crowd of adults and children, led by Mrs. Claus, sang joyously along to the music while enjoying the picturesque sight of the tree.
After caroling was finished, everyone enjoyed free fresh hot cocoa and cider and even some delicious cookies before the arrival of Santa. Mrs. Clause read stories to the children while the treats were enjoyed and the crowd awaited the arrival of the much anticipated “special guest.”
Then with the bright flashing lights and loud siren of a Fleetwood fire truck, Santa appeared to the crowd. Santa took his seat of honor, and heard all of the children’s wish lists. He then surprised the children with a toy bear from his giant sack.
The event was appreciated by all who attended with its almost magical element that makes the holiday season such an extraordinary part of the year. As one person described the event, “It was like a Hallmark movie with the tree lighting, the candles marking the pathways, the snow, Mrs. Clause with story time, and it was all free for everyone to enjoy!”
It was a beautiful night of holiday celebration and a night of creating long lasting holiday memories for both children and adults.
