Hamburg Borough Council voted to fire Hamburg Police Chief Pedro Rivera during their Council meeting on Dec. 26.

Hamburg Borough Council voted 5-1 to approve the employment termination motion as recommended by the Personnel Committee. A 60-day written notice of employment termination was given to Rivera dated Dec. 12, with an effective termination date of Feb. 10, 2018.

Outgoing council President Martha Bertolet voted no to the termination motion and outgoing Councilman Joshua Shaffer was absent, according to Hamburg Borough Manager Marisa C. Valkosak.

Valkosak had no further comment.

Hamburg Borough Solicitor Michael Gombar, Jr. with Masano Bradley, Wyomissing, said no specifics for the reason for the employment termination can be discussed at this time because it is a personnel matter.

Rivera’s employment as Hamburg Police Chief began in April 2012.
