“Star Wars” has been around for about 40 years now and is still very popular today. Fans from all over the world have gone to the theater to follow the sci-fi saga. After seeing “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” I may just have found out why the series has so many loyal followers and what keeps them watching.

Although these movies are in the sci-fi genre, future and space are not the only elements that make up “Star Wars.” The series is about the fight between good and evil, light and dark, and The Force. Friendship, family, cooperation, and different ways people can communicate to one another are the other themes and it’s these things that make people come back for more after each movie. For example in “The Last Jedi”, rebels or members of the Resistance may have their differences but they form friendships and work together to fight The First Order… Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker are brother and sister, and Jedis can use their minds to communicate.

The first “Star Wars” movie I saw on the big screen was last year’s “Rogue One” and previous to that I saw the other “Star Wars” movies on video because there’s a lot to take in. If you haven’t seen any of the other “Star Wars” films, you may want to do what I did and check out the stories on video before going to the theater especially “The Force Awakens” because this story continues where “The Force Awakens” ended.

Here’s a summary of what to expect in “The Last Jedi” without giving anything away….

Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and the Resistance (if you’re not familiar with the series these are the people who fight for the good side of the Force) find themselves in great danger. They are threatened and outnumbered by the First Order, (these are the bad people who are on the dark side of the Force).

Rey (Daisy Ridley) seeks out Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), to help save Princess Leia and the Resistance. Problems arise when we learn Luke Skywalker no longer has an interest in being a Jedi or helping the Resistance, and when Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), a former student of Luke’s, is torn between the light and the dark side. Now it is up to Rey to convince Luke Skywalker to teach her the ways of being a Jedi, so that she can save Leia, the Rebels, and keep hope for their cause alive.

I give this movie 4 out of 4 popcorn boxes because it had some amazing special effects that I’ve never seen in any other movie. One thing I like about this film was the unique creatures they had in it such as the Porgs, which are bird like animals with human features. Another thing I liked about this movie was how they brought back some old characters from the original films…no spoilers though about who, so you’ll be surprised like I was, and yes, there is lots of action!

In my research for this review I discovered that George Lucas is the creator of this amazing world of make-believe and the person who made the original “Star Wars” movies. If you want to check out a science fiction movie he did before Star Wars, watch “THX 1138”. Now that Disney is continuing the “Star Wars” saga there will be more stories, and a brand new audience of kids just like me who will go to see them!

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is rated PG-13 and runs 2 hours and 32 minutes.
