The Amity Police Department swore into service a new part time police officer at the Dec. 20 township supervisors’ meeting.
Officer Jeffrey Ellewanger will be paid an hourly rate $26.22 to help patrol the township.
Ellewanger, 24, Gilbertsville, is a 2016 graduate of Reading Police Academy and a 2014 graduate of Montgomery County Community College.
Police Chief Andrew J. Kensey said Ellewanger has worked at the Lehigh County Sheriff Department for the last year.
Kensey said the police department’s “vigorous [application and interview] process results in the department always hiring the best candidates for its open positions.”
