On Jan. 2, Leesport Borough officials held their bi-annual reorganizational meeting at Borough Hall to swear in those elected in November and to elect a council president and vice-president.
District Justice Brian K. Strand officiated the swearing in of Mayor Granville Sandridge and Councilmen Ronald Strause, David J. Reimer Sr., Martin Goetz, Charles Berger, and Cody Madeira. This will be first terms for Councilmen Reimer and Madeira.
In a roll-call vote, Martin Goetz was unanimously elected to serve as council president.
Goetz praised outgoing President Angelis by saying, “I’ve been with Dori for 12 years and she did a fine job. We’ve disagreed at times but we’ve always got around it.”
Angelis replied by saying, “Marty, you’ll be a great president.”
Charles Berger was then unanimously re-elected in a roll-call vote to serve as council vice president.
In other business, Borough Manager Sandra L. Weiser-Passavage reported that a fire hydrant on Chestnut Street had been struck by a vehicle and that borough employees were working on replacing it.
Councilman Berger suggested that everyone keep their eyes open for flowing or standing water in the streets that might indicate a broken water main. Brutally cold temperatures can be disastrous to the underground lines.
With no other business, Council President Goetz closed the meeting by stressing the importance of working together for the community.
