For the 30,000 law enforcement officers in Pennsylvania, suiting up in the morning with a badge and gun represents far more than simply heading into work. It signifies a reaffirmation of the solemn oath they took to faithfully carry out their duty of protecting the communities they serve. A commitment of this magnitude often comes at an immense cost, as we have sadly come to know all too well.

This was known all too well by the officers who lost their lives in the United States in 2017. These heroes stood tall in the face of danger and made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of others.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is Jan. 9, and we invite you to express your support and gratitude for the fearless men and women in uniform, while also honoring their fallen peers.

There are so many ways you can do this:

Thank a police officer.Send a letter of support to your local and state law enforcement.

Wear blue clothing.Change your profile picture on social media to a message of thanks.

Participate in Project Blue Light by shining a blue light in front of your home.

Our law enforcement officers are as brave as they come, and work every day to ensure a safe community for all of us. On behalf of all law enforcement, thank you for your support.
