Community and friendship thrive at the Honey Brook Community Library located on Route 10, where visitors are greeted with a welcoming smile. What was once just a normal library building, now stands out among any other local building in the township because of the newly decorated outside walls. The Community Library was started in 1963 and the brick facade is something any Honey Brook native can recognize, being a place where memories are made and cherished. Now, locals can drive by and see the major change that everyone is excited about.

The Friends of the Honey Brook Community Library, a volunteer group dedicated to ensuring the library receives the resources required for success, helped aid the library in the new renovations.

Life-long artist and dedicated library member, Susan Gardner, was excited to present her ideas and artistic ability. Gardner, eager to begin the project, created a design for the building’s exterior that would “reflect the color and excitement of what happens on the inside” of the library.

The process began when the Friends of the Library and Lowes of Elverson donated necessary materials and funds to kickstart the project. On June 10, the library held a volunteer day to encourage members of the community to help paint the murals, ensuring the project to be something both the library and the local community can be proud of. Gardner was finally able to hang the murals on the library’s left wall on Oct. 22.

“Now the kids who volunteered over the summer can see the murals and think ‘I worked on that’, and that’s pretty great”, explains Gardener, who appreciates all the work volunteers put into the project, especially child library members.

The Honey Brook Community Library is always looking for new members and volunteers. Stop by to see the artwork and check out a book Monday through Friday at 11 a.m., or Saturday at 10 a.m. For more information on how to get involved call 610-273-3303 or email Library Director, Jennifer Spade, at jspade@ccls.org.
