Benjamin Haas and Grace Aftandilov have been named Fleetwood Area High School’s January Students of the Month.
Benjamin HaasBenjamin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Haas of Fleetwood. Benjamin aspires to attend a four year college to study actuarial science or accounting and hopefully become an actuary.
Benjamin has been involved in the following clubs at Fleetwood Area High School: Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Chorale, Vocal Ensemble, Men’s Chorus, Choraliers, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), National Honor Society, Soccer, Indoor Track and Tennis.
Also, Benjamin supports his community by dedicating his time to volunteer at his church, Friend Inc., Opportunity House, Highway Cleanup, community parades, jazz festivals, the school’s craft show and Eagle Scout Projects.
Benjamin really admires his grandfather because he lives his life to the fullest and always focuses on the optimistic side of any situation. Also Benjamin states that his grandfather has a way of using humor to resolve tension or sadness which he greatly admires.
Grace AftandilovGrace is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephan Aftandilov of Blandon. Grace’s future plans include attending college to major in Environmental Studies with a minor in Global Relations.
Grace has been involved in the following clubs/activities at Fleetwood Area High School: Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Outdoor Club, Film Club, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Relay for Life, Envirothon, and Model United Nations.
Also, Grace has dedicated herself to the community by being actively involved in volunteering in the Relay for Life’s Safe Trick or Treat and the Relay, park restoration, Girl Scouts, and local food banks.
One person Grace really admires is Amal Clooney. Grace states that Amal has set a new standard of what it means to be an educated woman with power that graciously helps others with her impact. She single handedly redefined the molds of human rights laws and bravely took on dangerous circumstances for the benefit of humanity.
