On Feb. 4, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 5 Brooke Manor, Birdsboro celebrated the 75th anniversary of their Cub Scout Pack 595.

Scout Pack 595 is the second oldest pack in the Hawk Mountain Council which is made up of Berks and Schuylkill counties. Rev. Charles Fisher applied for a scout charter three weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Because it took a year to be given the charter and get started the scouts began meeting at St. Mark’s in 1942.

Pastor Jim Farnsworth, current pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, started a God and Me program with cub scouts and several church members who took the course in preparation for baptism. Eleven God and Me Awards were presented by church council members to the youth who studied with the pastor and a mentor. Those youth were Kyle Berkhammer, Kaiden Murphy, Ryan Siwinski, Wesley Clark, Jacob Derer, Dylan Haizer, Patrick Fitzgerald, Cody Taphorn, Mia Cox, Ethan Agular and Julia Agular.

Pastor Farnsworth used the Scout Oath and Law as a basis for his sermon and scouts served during the worship service.

After the service the scouts continued their celebration in the church’s social hall. Guest speakers included Rep. Ryan Costello and Rep. David Maloney Sr. A citation from Sen. Judith Schwank was also presented to the scout pack.
