Joseph P. Valent, a 2017 Ephrata Area High School graduate, attained his Eagle Scout Rank, the highest rank in the Boy Scout Program, at a Court of Honor Ceremony this past summer. Joey is the son of Joseph R. and Ellen Valent of Stevens.

Joey first joined scouting as a Tiger Cub in Cubscout Pack 38 in Ephrata, where he earned his Arrow of Light. In 2010, he became a scout member of Troop 48, New Holland. After earning his Arrow of Light in 2012, Joey earned 25 merit badges along his path to Eagle Scout. Joey served in various leadership positions in the troop, including quartermaster, assistant patrol member, patrol member, assistant senior patrol member and senior patrol member.

During his years as a Scout with the troop, Joey participated in many scouting events, including yearly Bashore summercamp, Camp Mack Winter Klondike event, hiking and bike-hike trips, summer beach camp-outs and fishing trips. Joey also participated in a Boy Scout High Adventure trip to the Florida SeaBase – a scout activity where scouts operate a sailing ship along the Florida Keys, and celebrated New Years’ day in Key West. Joey was also a Lifeguard employed at Camp Mack. Joey is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, and he attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference in 2015 in Michigan.

Joey’s Eagle Scout Project, required of every scout as part of the Eagle Scout Rank to show leadership and organizational skills, was installing a play area for local Ephrata Bible Fellowship Church (shown in picture). Joey, along with his team of scouts and adults, spent many hours planning and presenting, fundraising and working on the project.

Joey is currently enrolled at Lebanon Valley College as a freshman business major and a member of the college band.
