DISTRICT TWP. >> Police have identified the victim of a fatal crash involving a Honda sedan and a dump truck.

Kelvin Baez 19, of Allentown, was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday, Feb. 14, after police say a Honda Civic collided with a dump truck in an early morning crash.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene on Huffs Church Road at 6:55 a.m.

Eastern Berks and Sesiholtsville fire departments, along with Bally Medics arrived on the scene at the 900 block of Huffs Church Road in District Township. Pennsylvania State Police from the Reading station were also on the scene.

Police said that a Honda Civic sedan was travelling eastbound on Huffs Church Road while an unloaded Peterbilt dump truck was travelling west on Huffs Church Road. The Honda Civic crossed into the path of the dump truck, striking it head-on, police said.

In order to remove the victim from the car, a large wrecker from Berks Mont Towing had to come and lift the front end of the dump truck, while a second wrecker pulled the car our from under the truck. Rescue crews were then able to remove a door to allow the Berks County Coroner access to the driver of the car.

The operator of the Honda Civic, later identified as Baez, was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy Berks County coroner.

The driver of the dump truck, Edwin Doll, 51, of Leesport, was not injured, according to police.

Huff’s Church Road was closed and traffic diverted for more than four hours by fire police from Eastern Berks and Seisholtsville.
