While local Boy Scout Troop 48 celebrated their 100th Year Anniversary, many accomplishments were also celebrated for their members.

Robert Chaballa, Eagle Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster of the Troop, was recently selected as the Northeast Region Chair for the Order of the Arrow. Appointed by the chairman of the national Order of the Arrow committee in coordination with the region director. The Northeast Region is one of four regions in the United States. Bob also serves on the National Order of the Arrow Committee.

Charles Ulrich, Troop 48 Scoutmaster and Eagle Scout of the Troop, was awarded the Silver Beaver in 2017. This is a national award, and is the highest honor that a volunteer can receive in the council for service to Scouting and the community. Ulrich also received the Daniel Carter Beard Award, an honor given by the Masonic fraternity to a brother who renders outstanding service to Scouting.

Audra Newhart, Troop 48 Committee Chairperson, was honored with the District Award of Merit for 2017. This is a Council award and is the highest honor a Scouter may receive from the District. It is also given for exceptional service to Scouting and the community. Newhart has also been selected to serve as a staff member for Scouting’s premiere training course, known as Wood Badge.

Troop 48’s Chartered Partner, The New Holland Group of Citizens, was selected as the Chartered partner of the Year for actively sponsoring the Troop for 100 years. This award was presented by the Conestoga River District.

The Troop celebrated it’s 100th year of serving youth with an Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Four Scouts were awarded Scouting’s highest rank. The Scouts were Joseph Valent, Ryan Rathman, Charles Ulrich V, and Dawson Zalegowski.

Finally, the Troop was requested by the Pennsylvania Dutch Council, to provide an Honor Guard for the American flag, for the Distinguished Citizen Dinner. The 2017 recipient was Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray. The guest speaker was actor, author, director, and producer Henry Winkler, also known as Arthur Fonzarelli on the TV show “Happy Days”. Henry was very gracious and talked with the Scouts, as well as posed for pictures with the Troop shown in photo.
