The phenomenon of craft beer has taken the adult beverage industry by storm. In many ways more like an art form than mere food science, the craft beer movement has showered consumers with a diverse menu of beers appealing to all tastes and preferences. From ales to stouts to lagers and beyond, the inspiration behind each offering, as well as the artwork on the label, are often as unusual and colorful as the brews themselves.

On Saturday, April 7, a variety of craft beers from more than 30 breweries will be represented at the 5th annual Art of the Brew craft beer and wine tasting event held at the Hamburg Field House. This unique event includes regional favorites like Saucony Creek, Lancaster, Yuengling, and Troegs, plus many others from across the state and beyond.

Yuengling will be tapping their Golden Pilsner, its first new year-round beer in 17 years. The beer is a traditional German style pilsner with a 4.7% alcohol content, and is brewed with German noble hops, including Hallertau and Saaz hops.

Hamburg’s own 1787 Brewing Company will introduce their Black Bridge American Stout and Fern Sholly, an American IPA. This sampling of brews represents some of what 1787 will be offering their customers when the microbrewery opens in downtown Hamburg. The brewery will be Hamburg’s first, and after a year of major renovations to the former Miller’s 5 and 10 store, the brewery is planning to open in May of this year.

If you are a craft beer aficionado and appreciate the subtle nuance and creative genius that goes into designing and brewing these unique beverages then you will not want to miss this event. The doors open at 1:30 p.m.; tasting is from 2 to 5 p.m.

Your admission ticket includes all tastings, a meal, a souvenir glass (for tasters only) and live music. Designated drivers can enjoy the meal and entertainment for $10. Parking is free. Tickets are for sale in advance through eventbrite.com (search for Art of the Brew, Hamburg), or by phone at 610-562-3106. Tickets for sale at the door also.

The event is hosted by Our Town Foundation, Hamburg’s Non-profit Community Revitalization Corporation with assistance from Windsor Distributing of Hamburg.
