An estimated 800 people came out for the Kutztown Optimist Club’s annual Easter Egg Hunt held at Kutztown Park on March 31.

The Club scattered 14,000 eggs stuffed with candy on the park grounds for the different age groups ranging from 0-2 to adult. Select eggs were stuffed with prize tokens for toys and M&Ms.

“We do this every year for the kids,” said Kutztown Optimist Any O’Neil. “Everything we do is for children.”

Just watching the children enjoy the event makes it a special event for the optimists.

“It’s a lot of work but we have a lot of groups who help,” said O’Neil. “It’s a lot of people who help to make this happen.”

Optimist Greg Bennicoff, event chair, enjoys working with the Optimists and setting it all up for the children.

“We all work really hard to do this. Everybody comes together. The community comes together,” said Bennicoff. “Just seeing everybody, seeing the kids all have fun. It’s a blast. We love it.”

He said the Egg Hunt is one of the biggest events that the Optimist Club hosts.

“It’s a good community. Everybody comes together to have a good time,” he said.

In addition to the Egg Hunt, children could pose for photos with Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny, who arrived via Kutztown fire truck.

“This is the best part about being an Optimist,” said Kutztown Optimist Club President Don Hickman. “Our vision is give hope and a positive vision for kids. It don’t get any better than this. Couldn’t wipe their smiles away with a brush.”
