Jennifer Brooks and Lisa Gauker, Berks County Parks Department Environmental Education Program Manager and Assistant Manager, respectively, presented an Animal Adaptations Program for children at the Exeter Community Library on April 4.
Brooks and Gauker brought to the library live Corn Snake named Albert, female Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, Leopard Gecko named Bean and a Bearded Dragon named The Dude. They also showed the children feathers, Whitetail Deer antlers, a taxidermied porcupette (baby porcupine) and the pelts of opossum, beaver, fox and skunk.
The presentation was given to 21 Library Scouts who are children that attend the Exeter Library program to earn a ‘Fun in Nature Badge.’
“Library Scouts is a learning adventure about the world around us for children 4+years of age. Some nights we will have special guests come in and teach us new things. Some nights we will learn with each other. We will help make the world a better place by being kind, responsible, helpful, and accepting. Your child may earn a Library Scout backpack and patches by attending programs,” according to the Exeter Library.
