The staff and administration at Berks Career and Technology Center (BCTC) was pleased to honor Beth Shive of Boyertown Area School District with a “Life-Long Friend of Career and Technical Education”plaque and award. As a true friend of BCTC, Shive has always advocated for the career center and educated students and parents about the benefits of attending BCTC.

One example of Shive going above and beyond was creating a presentation to encourage 9th graders to attend BCTC. In order to put this presentation together, Shive visited all of the Boyertown seniors currently attending BCTC and asked them what they wished they would have known during their 9th grade presentation. She chronicled their answers and paired them with photos of the students working at BCTC. The results were phenomenal. The presentation not only resonated with the 9th graders, but it was used to educate Boyertown staff during an in-service day, and has now been presented to 5th graders as well.

“She truly goes above and beyond to support the career and technology center mission. We love seeing her in the halls, and we appreciate how she constantly advocates for Boyertown students who want to attend BCTC. She’s an excellent friend to have,” stated Dr. James Kraft, Executive Director of BCTC.

After receiving the award, Shive said, “I’m honored and flattered to receive the award, but truly I couldn’t do what I do if BCTC didn’t have such wonderful teachers and students. I encourage students to pursue their options and that includes the opportunities at BCTC. I’m always so thrilled to see students excelling here and taking ownership of their learning experience.”

This award was presented to Shive during the March 28, BCTC Joint Operating Committee meeting, held at the East Campus in Oley.
