Community Homeschool Players will perform “Cinderella” on May 4 and 5 at Conestoga Mennonite Church in Morgantown.

A group of home-schooled theater enthusiasts from the Community Homeschoolers’ Learning Group in Morgantown, has been in existence since 2003 with many productions.

“This year proves to be hilarious with Cinderella written by Sally Netzel published by Dramatic Publishing Co. This will be a favorite of children and all ages!” said Amanda Hertzler, co-director with Saige Hassler. “The delightful, classic fairy tale is retold with a twist of comedy and imagination. Cinderella’s sad and lonely life is disrupted by the arrival of her fairy godmother who offers her the chance to meet the Prince at the royal ball. The traditional characters make an appearance, as well a few new favorites such as an eclectic group of merchants, an overworked royal assistant, and a very distracted queen.”

Cast includes Seerena Petersen of Reading portraying Cinderella, Nicole Burkholder of Morgantown portrays Cloakmaker and Agnes, Abigail Snider of Philadelphia portrays the Hatmaker and Dressmaker, Kyle Petersen of Reading plays the Shoemaker and Blanche, Reagan Spahr of Morgantown plays the Beggar and the Godmother, Hayley Hopkins of Morgantown portrays the Stepmother, Brenna Ezard of Mohnton plays the Queen, Aidan Stratton of Downingtown plays Pierre, and Josiah Musser of Mohnton plays the Prince.

Crew includes Kayla Brown, Jesse Burkholder, Jadon Chambers, Lauren Dymond, Valerie Gerace and Carissa Petersen.

“Because we’re not in a traditional theater type of setting this year, we saw an opportunity to be creative with how we set the stage and use the space. We told the cast that since we can’t bring the audience to the theater, we are bringing the theater to the audience. They’ve done a great job of learning how to put on an immersive show without losing the charm of the story. Both Saige Hassler and I (Amanda Hertzler) have directed the Community Homeschool Players in previous productions. This year, we decided to join forces and co-direct as a team which has been great because we learn from each other’s style and instincts.”

Shows will be performed Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 5 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Conestoga Mennonite Church in Morgantown.
