At the Borough Council meeting on April 23, the Hamburg Borough Council voted unanimously to approve the hire of Ryan Fields as a part-time Officer.

Mayor George Holmes administered the Oath of Office shortly thereafter to Fields while his parents and friends looked on. Patrolman Fields is the first new hire by the new Chief of Police, Tony Kuklinski, who hopes to hire additional part-time officers.

Ryan Fields is a 2017 graduate of Reading Police Academy, receiving his Act 120 certification. He also earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Montgomery County Community College. Fields previously worked in security, helping to train new security officers and participating in active shooter drills. In his spare time, he enjoys vehicle restoration, competitive shooting and outdoor volunteer work.

Mayor Holmes said the additional hiring is part of an effort to reduce overtime and increase scheduling flexibility. The Police Department is currently undergoing a complete policy review, to include staffing levels. The goal is to work more closely with the community to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for those who live, work and play in Hamburg.
