UNION TWP. >> State police are investigating the theft of nearly $22,000 worth of jewelry from a township home.
The victim told state police from the Reading station that the jewelry went missing while movers were in her residence on May 9.
The 69-year-old woman hired movers to pack her belongings at her home on Hopewell Street, according to a press release issued by state police.
The woman told police she believes one of the movers stole the jewelry from the master bathroom of the home during the packing phase of the move, the release states.
Among the high-value jewelry pieces reported missing were a 17-inch-wide bead rope necklace worth $10,000, a white gold diamond 4-carat tennis bracelet valued at $6,000, a gold diamond wedding ring valued at $4,550, and a 14-carat gold ring with rubies and diamonds valued at $1,300.
Police did not name the moving company involved in the alleged theft or if they have any suspects at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.State police from the Reading station patrol Union Township, which doesn’t have its own police force.
